Medal with a dark patina and irregular edge, bearing the signature "T. RATTI"—an indication of the sculptor's hand. Crafted with the goldsmith's skill typical of post-war commemorative medals.

History and recipients: The Assault Units (Arditi) were founded in 1917 as elite troops for raids and line-breaking; the 30th was one of the numbered units that participated in disruptive operations and small raids. After demobilization, many former Arditi participated in the Fiume Expedition, and some later found ties with the Fascist movement: that period contributed to the controversial and dramatic fame surrounding these medals.

Sculptor/Producer: The "RATTI" signature is attributed to Battista "Titta" Ratti, a sculptor/goldsmith born in Milan in 1896, trained at the Brera Academy, and active in the first half of the 20th century. His work includes bronze and medal works; the presence of his signature identifies the artistic quality of the piece.
