Black leather bayonet frog for the S98/05 (Seitengewehr 98/05), designed to secure the bayonet to the soldier’s belt as part of standard German military equipment. The 98/05 designation refers to the model introduced in 1905 for the Gewehr 98, which continued to see use in various forms during the Second World War.
Constructed from thick, durable leather, the frog features a folded and stitched structure, reinforced with metal rivets at key stress points. The upper section includes a metal attachment stud, used to secure the bayonet in place, while the reverse is fitted with belt loops for stable attachment to the standard field belt.
The black leather finish is characteristic of later wartime production, reflecting efforts toward standardization and simplified manufacturing. This type of frog was used with multiple bayonet patterns, including the S98/05 and other compatible models in service.
