The BeVo woven Litzen collar tabs with dark green backing were a standard uniform insignia worn by soldiers of the German Wehrmacht during the Second World War.
These collar tabs were attached to the collar of the Feldbluse, the standard field tunic worn by soldiers of the German Army. They were used by enlisted men and non-commissioned officers, while officers used different styles of collar insignia.
The typical Litzen design consisted of two parallel decorative bars, often referred to as the double Litzen pattern, mounted on a rectangular cloth base. The decorative bars were usually woven in light grey or silver thread, forming one of the most recognizable insignia patterns used on German military uniforms.
The dark green backing reflects the traditional dunkelgrün collar cloth used on early Wehrmacht field tunics. This dark green collar was a distinctive feature of many pre-war and early-war German Army uniforms before later wartime simplifications standardized the use of feldgrau cloth.
Many of these insignia were produced using the BeVo weaving technique, named after Bandfabrik Ewald Vorsteher, a German manufacturer specializing in woven military insignia and uniform decorations.
This method allowed the design to be woven directly into the fabric rather than embroidered, producing durable and precisely manufactured insignia suitable for field uniforms.
Typically the Litzen were woven on feldgrau cloth, with the decorative pattern integrated into the fabric and later mounted on a dark green wool backing corresponding to the collar cloth of the tunic.
During the war numerous German textile and uniform manufacturers were involved in producing woven insignia for the Wehrmacht. Original examples may display distinct weave structures, production variations or manufacturing characteristics that can help identify different makers or production periods.
The dark green Litzen collar tabs therefore represent a typical feature of German Army field uniforms, reflecting the standardized insignia system used within the Wehrmacht during World War II.
